Maca is made up of very dense nutrients that fuel and nourish the body. It is rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and iron, and contains trace minerals, including zinc, iodine, copper, selenium, bismuth, manganese, and silica, Vitamins B1, B2, B12, Vitamins C and E, Amino Acids, Beta-ecdyson. It contains important amounts of fatty acids including linoleic, palmitic and oleic acids, four alkaloids proven in scientific investigation to nourish the endocrine glands, and reproductive system of men and women. This species of MACA has the highest nutritional value of any food crop grown in South America. It is not a hormone. MACA has extraordinary properties documented in hundreds of pages of studies, and clinical and laboratory testing.

Why This Specific Species MACA?

The only area where this particular species is found is at extremely high altitudes of 13,000 feet above sea level. The soil of these high plateaus is extremely rich in minerals, accounting for its high level of trace minerals. Proper cultivation requires that it grow in soil at very high elevations having a high, dense mineral content. Our growers maintain this important mineral content in the soil by allowing the growing fields to rest or lay fallow for 5-10 years between plantings. This is a very important distinction.

There are several species of Maca, none of which nutritionally match Lepidium peruvianum meyenii Chacon. These other maca-like plants grow wild at low altitudes in parts of Bolivia, Argentina and Peru and are then harvested under less than optimal conditions with flowers and weeds that grow at these lower altitudes. Also artificial heating is used in their preparation. Our MACA is 100% organic and naturally sun dried. Ongoing concerns exist about the purity of these maca-like plants. The medicinal strength is substantially weaker as noted by tests done by Dr. Chacon. The name Dr. Chacon is synonymous with MACA today due to her passion and extensive research of this herb. MACA contains extraordinary properties documented in hundreds of pages of studies, laboratory and clinical tests and is known to contain all the nutrients and alkaloids responsible for the medicinal and beneficial effects. It is also named after the researcher, Dr. Gloria Chacon de Popovici, whom continues her research, lectures and symposiums regularly. MACA comes in bottles of 90/750mg. vegetable capsules.

How Does Maca Work?

MACA is a powerful adaptogen which means it adjusts to the needs of the body. Being an adaptogen is an important and not common distinction among herbs and plant species. It allows the plant to work according to the needs of the person taking it. The herb works through the hypothalamus and pituitary to help insure balanced and healthy hormone levels. MACA nourishes the glands, and is especially noted for its nourishing the adrenals which are recently being implicated as adversely affecting allergy suffers. Many people notice a difference within several weeks, others within hours.
